Learning Zone
At St. Katharine Drexel School,
we understand that some students require a
different style or pace for learning. For these
students, we offer academic assistance in the Learning Zone. The Learning Zone is an inviting room
for all students which is housed at the Elementary Campus.
The Learning Zone is staffed by teachers and parent
tutors. Our main focus is on those
students who need a little extra one-on-one attention to learn at their level
and to reach their full potential. Students come to the Learning Zone for a
variety of reasons: to get some extra help on a specific skill or area; to
review for an upcoming test; to read aloud or have something read to them; or to
get help in overcoming a more difficult learning challenge.
This resource is not only for those considered to be at risk but also for those
needing enrichment or an additional challenge because they are
advanced beyond their grade level.
The Learning Zone is not used as a place
where discipline problems are sent. Our goal is to offer services such
as remediation, one-on-one learning, tutoring, and/or an adjusted curriculum.
As a result of these services, we hope to see an increase in motivation and an increase in learning.
By improving study and academic skills, we help students to improve their social skills and
build their self esteem.
