Mrs. Ely
Mrs.
Lois Ely is the bookkeeper for St. Katharine Drexel School and Parish.
She has been in this position for 16 years, and she has seen some major
changes in the Parish during that time. In 1991, she became
Secretary/Bookkeeper at St. Patrick’s Church. In 2000, she was hired as
the part-time bookkeeper for United Catholic Parish Schools. In 2003,
the three Catholic churches in Beaver Dam (St. Michaels, St. Patrick’s
and St. Peter’s) united as St. Katharine Drexel Parish and Mrs. Ely was
hired as the full-time bookkeeper for the parish and school.
Since high school, Mrs. Ely has loved bookkeeping, and has worked in
different bookkeeping jobs in Beaver Dam. When her children were
younger, she did not work outside of the home. Now, of course, she works
full-time. When asked what she likes about her job, Mrs. Ely says, “The
staff at the school and church have always been helpful and are a
wonderful bunch of people to work with.”
Mrs. Ely is the mother of 4 children (Eric, Teresa, Angie and Steven)
between the ages 19 and 33. Her husband, Richard, is employed at Mills
Fleet Farm. Mrs. Ely is also the proud grandmother of 2 grandsons:
Jordan, who is 12 and is in 7th grade at Beaver Dam Middle school; and
Ethan, who is 8 months old and also lives in Beaver Dam. She says, “I am
lucky to have both of them in Beaver Dam. Being a grandma is
great!”
When she is not spending time with her family, Mrs. Ely likes to cook
and bake and do gardening in the spring and summer. Her love of sewing
has now led to quilting, which takes up a lot of her spare time. She has
made quilted wall hangings and small items for family and friends, and
has just started her first full-size quilt for a queen size bed. Mrs.
Ely also collects lots of cookbooks and loves reading all sorts of
magazines.
