Ms. Everett
Ms. Rose Everett is a fourth grade teacher here
at SKDS. She has been at SKDS for, as she puts it, “20 wonderful
years." Before that, Ms. Everett taught 3rd grade at Hartford
Elementary School and for 10 years at Moraine Park Technical College
teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), ABE (Adult Basic
Education), and GED (General Equivalency Diploma).
Ms. Everett planned to major in journalism at
Whitewater State until she taught a First Communion class. She really enjoyed this experience.
Sister Annina at St. Malachy’s in Horicon noted that she has a gift for
working with children and asked her to consider a career in education.
Ms. Everett admits, “Up to that point, I had never thought of teaching.
I will be forever grateful to her for directing me to the most enjoyable
and rewarding career I could have hoped for. I visit her often at Elm
Grove and she still is very dear to my heart.”
Ms. Everett has found the right career in teaching. She says, “I love
everything about teaching. I cannot ever remember a time when I wasn’t
excited about learning new things or coming to school at SKDS. I am
always trying to find new and interesting ways to help children learn
and to remember what I teach. I also enjoy watching them grow
spiritually as I try to help them live their faith.”
She was honored in the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 editions of “Who’s Who
Among America’s Teachers.” Ms. Everett shares, “For my former students
to take the time to nominate me and to feel that I have made a
difference in their lives is an unbelievable honor to me. I was moved to
tears of joy and appreciation. I truly thank God for all the blessings
of this most important life work that He led me to.”
In her free time, Ms. Everett loves biking (especially the state
trails), gardening and camping. She also has enjoyed making tie blankets
this past year for each of her children and grandchildren (12 in all).
Ms. Everett has three daughters and nine
grandchildren. All her daughters, Roseann, Robyn and Renee, have chosen
careers in nursing. Her mother was a nurse, and she says, “My daughters have followed in my mom’s footsteps, so I
am hoping one of my grandchildren will become a teacher. I would be so
proud!”
Ms. Everett’s advice for students: Never give up and always try to do
your best.
This Chinese proverb summarizes Ms. Everett’s philosophy of teaching:
“I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.”
