Mrs. Kalscheur
Mrs.
Barbara Kalscheur has been with SKDS since 2000. She teaches grades
sixth-eighth. Before joining the SKDS team, Mrs.
Kalscheur taught for two years at Lakeside Middle School in Orange Park,
Florida and for six years at Markesan High School.
Mrs. Kalscheur said, “I became a teacher because I always loved school.
I think that I announced my future as a teacher when I was in
kindergarten! I admired many of my teachers, and I wanted to make a
difference for good.”
Mrs. Kalscheur enjoys teaching, and she said, “My favorite part is
having a good relationship with students. I enjoy talking and laughing
with students and the give and take that makes for a comfortable
classroom. I really enjoy hearing from students after they graduate from
eighth grade; I like to hear how they are doing.”
Mrs. Kalscheur is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She and her
husband David have been married for almost 33 years. David is a retired
physical education teacher and is the head coach for boys and girls’
tennis at Beaver Dam High School. Together, Mrs. Kalscheur and her
husband have three children: Lisa, Josh, and Ruth. Lisa is now Sister
Elizabeth Marie and is a Dominican Sister with the Congregation of St.
Cecilia in Nashville, Tennessee (a teaching order. All three of
their children attended St. Katharine Drexel School when it was UCPS.
They were taught by many of our current teachers.
In her spare time, Mrs. Kalscheur’s favorite activity is gardening. She
has several perennial gardens in her yard, and she spends hours there in
the spring and summer. In addition to gardening, Mrs. Kalscheur has
always enjoyed reading and she has a great love for music. She shared,
“Music brings me great joy. Since I was in high school, I have enjoyed
attending musicals, and I know the words to most Broadway shows. I could
break into song at any time. I loved going to high school band, chorus,
and jazz band concerts. Now I listen to a lot of Christian music—Steven
Curtis Chapman, Michael Card, Casting Crowns, and Rich Mullins are some
of my favorite artists.” Mrs. Kalscheur’s family loves to travel
together, and she especially enjoys visiting historic areas and national
parks.
Mrs. Kalscheur’s words of advice for students: “See the face of Christ
in everyone you meet. Treat others with dignity and respect. Go to God
in prayer with whatever is on your mind or in your heart. Learn about
the world, travel, and expand your vision. Receive Jesus in the
Eucharist.”
Mrs. Kalscheur’s favorite quotation: “I can do all things through Christ
who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.
