Mrs. Pearce
Mrs.
Judy Pearce has been teaching at St. Katharine Drexel School since 1983.
During her years here, she has taught Preschool for one semester, first
grade for 14 years and second grade for 9 years. Currently, Mrs. Pearce
teaches 2nd grade math, reading, language arts, spelling, science,
penmanship, religion, and some Spanish.
When asked why she became a teacher, Mrs. Pearce said, “I always liked
to baby-sit and enjoyed children. My dad was a teacher and I’m sure that
he influenced me to become a teacher too. He always told me that you
would never be bored teaching—each day was always different because the
students were each unique. He also said teaching was very rewarding—to
see the ‘light bulb’ come on when a student really understands something
new.”
Mrs. Pearce’s favorite part of her job is being able to teach the
students and to watch each and every one of them progress during the
year. She says, “My dad was right; the day is never boring and never the
same. I also love the fact that we are all one big family. SKDS is a
great place to teach for that very reason.”
Mrs. Pearce was born in Columbus, WI. She lived in Horicon from the age
of 5 until she went to college. Before joining the UCPS/SKDS staff, she
taught first grade for 7 years at Rhodes Elementary School in River
Grove, Illinois.
Mrs. Pearce and her husband Jim have two adult daughters, Amy (married
to Matthew) and Melissa (married to Tim). She is also the proud
grandmother of two grandchildren, Pearce and Alanna, and is expecting a
new grandchild in August.
In her free time, Mrs. Pearce loves to read, listen to music, watch all
kinds of sports, and go bowling. Mrs. Pearce has enjoyed her involvement
in the Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre for 23 years; she has directed
16 children’s musicals during that time. Mrs. Pearce also loves spending
time with her grandchildren whenever she can.
Mrs. Pearce’s words of advice for students: Be proud of what you do and
always try to do your best. No one is perfect and it’s okay to make
mistakes.
Her favorite quotation? Mrs. Pearce says, “My uncle wrote this quotation
in my autograph book when I was about nine and I’ve always remembered
it: Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.
How true this is!”
