Our young artist have completed the first quarter and we swiftly move into the second quarter and being many new and creative projects.  Just to remind families, art class meets twice a week and we usually complete two to three projects each quarter.  As you review the report card on line, you will see the assessments of the standards for individual projects as well as a final quarter assessment.  You may also see a written comment about your child's progress, efforts and behavior.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time.

The students continue to work well in art class with our seasonal projects.  The photo link below will include picture of the SKDS second grade class making stuffed pumpkins.  They went home on Monday, October 14th.  They will make a beautiful holiday decoration that can be displayed through Thanksgiving. Other classes are engaged in various projects to strengthen basic skills. Each piece demonstrates individuality and creativity. Just a reminder that the majority of the completed art work stays here at school to be displayed for the Festival of Educational Arts on Thursday, January 30th.

As we welcome Autumn, take the time to enjoy God’s easel and multitudes of color in nature. This is my favorite time of the year as colors blanket the state, farmers head out for the harvest and I pray to St. Hubertus, patron saint of hunting, in hopes of seeing deer under my bow stand. The seasonal colors are also flowing into the art room as we complete projects and being new ones. Projects include stuffed pumpkins by the second grade class and watercolor resist pumpkin painting by the third graders.  The fourth grade will create beautiful leaf bowls in clay from real leaves! We also begin our monthly projects for the nursing home as the residents proudly display the work of the children. Please check out the link below to view the featured class and the works of art they are currently creating.

The SKDS students have been working well on a variety of art projects. Kindergarten is moving to a fall favorite, torn paper owls.  Each owl has a personality of its own! The first grade is busy with a colorful design project, tracing their own hands and feet. Second grade is incredibly enthusiastic about their cityscapes. Crazy hair art is a third grade favorite. I invite you to check out the ART GALLERY link below as their work is featured in the gallery. Self portraits have captured the attention of our 4th graders. The back of the portrait will include four things that define who they are. Namegame is a lesson on the formation of basic block style lettering and the fifth graders are quickly becoming "font masters". Middle school students are progressing well. The sixth graders are working on creative, colorful and very busy project. We refer to it as "how art speaks to me". If you display your child's art work, seventh graders are finishing up on a personal favorite.  It's a watercolor painting of a tree with a stain glass appearance. They are beautiful! Our eight grade artist have worked diligently to develop shading skills using Prismacolor colored pencils.
