Hello! My name is MacKenzie VerHage and I am the new Learning Support Coordinator at Saint Katharine Drexel School! I am so excited to be back “home.” I attended Saint Katharine Drexel from 2001-2009 and throughout these years, I had some of the most amazing teachers that inspired me to become a teacher. I will never forget, when my 3rd grade teacher retired, she gave me her Social Studies teacher book and I thought it was the coolest thing ever! I played school with my sister (Yes, she is the 2nd grade teacher!) for hours when I was younger. We used to “grade” papers, teach all subjects to our “students,” take lunch and milk count and have “prep” time to get ready for the next day. I think we had the best pretend class ever because we had the best teachers as role models!

I graduated from UW Whitewater in 2017 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders. I then worked as a Special Education Paraprofessional for 3 years at an elementary school in Watertown and during those years I went back to school to get my Master’s Degree in Special Education. I love school so much that I recently decided to go back to school to get my Reading Teacher License through UW Stout!

During my free time I love to fish, travel, walk nature trails, and play tennis! I also enjoy watching the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers.

One of my favorite reading quotes is, “Books aren’t just made of words...they’re also filled with places to visit and people to meet.” One of my favorite faith quotes is “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart.”
